Axe-Wielding Attacker Arrested In Greenbrae: Police

A Petaluma man is accused of attempted murder after police allege he broke into a building and attacked someone with an axe in Greenbrae.

GREENBRAE, CA — A man was hospitalized with serious injuries Tuesday after police allege an attacker hit him in the face with an axe in Greenbrae.

According to Central Marin Police, a 911 caller reported a suspicious man holding an axe and following another man around 10:30 a.m. near Industrial Way and Rich Street. While officers were en route to the scene, several other callers reported the man had broken into a business and attacked someone inside.

Police credited the workers who witnessed the attack with acting fast to prevent further harm.

"Employees from the business bravely pinned the axe-wielding man to the ground until Central Marin Police officers arrived and detained him," the department wrote. "The victim sustained severe facial injuries and was transported to the hospital where he was expected to recover."

Investigators identified the suspect as Scott Scibilia, 54, of Petaluma. He was booked into jail on suspicion of attempted murder, criminal threats, violation of a court order, burglary and committing a felony while released on bail. A Marin County judge granted an emergency protection order Tuesday and set Scibilia's bail at $1 million.
