SAN RAFAEL, CA — A fiery crash on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge left one dead and blocked westbound traffic into the early morning hours Tuesday. According to Caltrans, the resulting damage will leave at least two lanes closed until crews can ensure safety.

A semi-truck crashed into the toll plaza just before 10 p.m. Monday, engulfing both the truck and a toll booth in flames. According to Bay City News, at least one person died in the crash.

The large emergency response fully blocked westbound lanes for several hours, with a handful able to reopen in time for the morning commute. In an update shared late Tuesday morning, Caltrans said the two far-right lanes would remain closed while crews assessed the damage, advising drivers to expect continued delays. A third westbound lane closed shortly before noon. All eastbound lanes remain open.
