Five Bay Area Census Offices Reopen, Distribution Continued

U.S. Census Offices in Santa Rosa, San Mateo, Sunnyvale, San Jose and Concord​ were reopened May 25.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — Five U.S. Census offices in the Bay Area are back to work this week after being shuttered in March during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a release, the Census Bureau said 13 of the state's 30 census offices were opened on May 25. The five now open in the Bay Area are in Santa Rosa, San Mateo, Sunnyvale, San Jose and Concord.

According to the bureau, census workers have returned to dropping off 2020 Census questionnaire packets at the doors of households in the area for which no mailing address is available.

Census workers have been instructed to maintain physical distance and wear personal protective equipment while delivering questionnaires, the Census Bureau said. All drop-offs are contactless.

Questionnaires will be delivered to roughly 34,000 homes in the Bay Area. Residents can respond online, by phone or by mail.
