Weekend Shooting Injures 1 In San Rafael

One person was injured after several shots were fired from a vehicle in San Rafael's Canal neighborhood Sunday night.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — Detectives in San Rafael are investigating a late-night shooting that left one person with injuries from a ricochet, police said Monday.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired a few minutes after 11 p.m. Sunday. Witnesses told police multiple shots had been fired in the area of Novato Street in San Rafael's Canal neighborhood.

Police found a man near Kerner Boulevard with a leg wound from a bullet that ricocheted and multiple casings nearby. The man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.

Witnesses told police that a vehicle was driving down Novato Street and yelling at several people, including things potentially related to gang activity, before the shots rang out. Several shots struck the ground and a parked car.

Investigators recovered multiple casings and bullet fragments from the scene along with several alcoholic beverage containers.
