Marin County Resident Suspected Of Fatally Stabbing Man

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — A 55-year-old man allegedly stabbed by a Marin County resident during a fight in downtown Mountain View on Saturday has died, police said Monday. The victim passed away Sunday night, according to Mountain View police spokeswoman Katie Nelson. His identity has not been released.

Police said 43-year-old Jan Neal stabbed the victim around 6:30 p.m. during a physical altercation in the courtyard of the Mountain View Center for Performing Arts.

At the scene, officers saw Neal attacking the victim. Officers ordered Neal to stop, but he did not respond to them, police said.

That's when an officer used a Taser to stop Neal, but it was not effective and Neal continued his attack, police said.

Officers were eventually able to restrain Neal and provide aid to the victim, who suffered severe stab wounds. The victim was taken to a hospital where he was in serious, but stable condition, according to police.

Neal was also taken to a hospital for treatment. He was later arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail, police said.

Police said they do not yet know what caused the altercation between the two men or if they knew each other.
