Marin Halloween Checks Net 0 Arrests

County officials said unannounced visits to registered sex offenders and probationers on Halloween resulted in no arrests.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Several Marin County agencies partnered on Halloween to conduct unannounced searches at residences of sex offenders and people on probation for multiple DUIs or gang offenses.

The Marin County Probation Department worked with the San Rafael Police Department, Novato Police Department and the California Department of Corrections to evaluate 30 probationers for compliance, according to the county. The checks resulted in no arrests, but officials said investigators seized a few electronic devices for further investigation.

Law enforcement agencies conduct the checks periodically to ensure offenders are following the terms of their probationary requirements.

"In addition to registered sex offenders, it was imperative to remain vigilant on gang activity in the communities and ensuring DUI offenders were not under the influence of alcohol or operating a vehicle while families were engaging in Halloween festivities," the county said Thursday. "Routine operations ensure community by exercising due diligence to make field contacts with defendants who are under supervision."
