Early indications are that recent rain soaked soil below a retaining wall, The Marin Independent Journal reports. Around 1.69 inches of rain fell on the North Bay town over the previous 48 hours according to the report.

Crews were summoned to secure neighborhood powerlines, KTVU reports.

"Fortunately the neighbors heard the collapse, and they said it sounded like thunder coming down," Battalion Chief Gavin Illingworth of the Ross Valley Fire Department told the television station.

"They have been in contact with the homeowners."
