Novato PD Awarded $88K Traffic Safety Grant

The grant program will run through September 2022.

NOVATO, CA — The Novato Police Department has been a awarded an $88,000 grant to promote traffic safety from state and federal agencies.

The NPD says it will use the funds for a traffic services program that aims to deter dangerous and illegal driving.

The grant will fund enforcement measures including DUI checkpoints, patrols targeting impaired and distracted drivers, operations focused on bicycle and pedestrian safety, community education and officer training.

“Impairment, speeding and other dangerous driving behaviors jeopardize the safety of other people on the road,” Novato Police Sergeant Reza Pourfarhani said in a statement.

“This funding allows us to provide necessary traffic enforcement measures with the goal of reducing serious injury and fatal crashes on our roads.

Funding for this program was provided by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
