Possible Shark Attack Spurs Search For Man Off Wildcat Beach

The man was still missing Monday despite a lengthy search effort to locate him following a reported shark attack Sunday morning.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Reports of a shark attack Sunday prompted a multi-agency search along the Point Reyes National Seashore, but search teams failed to locate the victim Monday morning after a day and night effort.

A public affairs officer told Patch that Coast Guard Sector San Francisco fielded the report around 10:40 a.m. Sunday in the area of Wildcat Beach. The Coast Guard launched air and sea units, aided by the Marin County Fire Department, with shoreline help from the Marin County Sheriff's Office and the National Park Service.

A Coast Guard captain called off the search at 8 a.m. Monday.

According to The Press Democrat, park service, sheriff's office and fire department crews planned to continue efforts when conditions allowed, but officials expected it would be a recovery mission due to the amount of time that had passed.

The Press Democrat reported the missing man was described as 52 years old, weighing 210 pounds with an athletic build and was last seen wearing black spandex shorts.
