Rohnert Park Police Find 'Explosive Device' in Marin Man's Truck

Authorities are investigating a report of a bomb found in a Marin man's truck parked along a street in Rohnert Park on Wednesday.

went to Mary Place at 6:30 p.m., on Aug. 1 after receiving a call about a possible explosive device attached to a toolbox in the bed of a truck.

“The truck owner is in Marin, lives in Marin County,” Rohnert Park Police Lt. Jeff Taylor said. “His son and the wife that he’s going through a divorce with is at the Mary Place (home).”

Rohnert Park officers called in the assistance of a UC Berkley bomb disposal team who advised the officers to evacuate homes along Mary Place surrounding the truck as a safety precaution. By 8:30 p.m., police evacuated the nearby residences and cordoned off the street.

The bomb squad arrived and removed the suspected explosive device from the truck for analysis and disposal. Within two hours after the bomb team’s arrival, the street was re-opened and the residents were allowed to re-enter their homes.

Taylor said this afternoon that it’s an ongoing investigation and there have been no arrests made.

“We are still investigating it, looking into charges, if anything will be charged,” Taylor said.  “We don’t want to call it a bomb, like he meant to hurt somebody, that’s not where our investigation is leading. Was it truly an explosive device? We don’t know what to call it.”

But Taylor said that the device is under analysis at UC Berkley.
