San Rafael Businesses Can Receive Up To $600 In Free Compost Bins

The City of San Rafael is offering free compost bins for local businesses in the process of complying with a new state law mandating them.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — The City of San Rafael, in partnership with Zero Waste Marin, is awarding up to $600 in free indoor composting bins to businesses that sign up with Marin Sanitary’s commercial composting service.

California Senate Bill 1383 requires all businesses, regardless of weekly solid waste output, to sign up for composting services. Businesses that don’t comply will receive penalties starting in 2024.

To sign up, email Marin Sanitary Service at commercialrecycling@marinsanitary.com, or call 415-456-2601. After signing up, businesses can apply online Applications are available until May 1, or until funds run out. If the application link is close before May 1, it means that funds have run out. Applications are reviewed once a week, and shipping times range from 3-5 business days.
