SAN RAFAEL, CA — The city of San Rafael on Monday issued a proclamation in support of an event commemorating diversity.
The City Council on Monday backed a proclamation commemorating April as “Celebrate Diversity Month.”
"Celebrate Diversity Month" was started in 2004 by educators who sought to celebrate the backgrounds, experiences, and identities that shape our world and enrich our lives.

“Recognizing diversity in this manner enhances our understanding and celebration of diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and contributions and makes San Rafael a more thoughtful and welcoming place,” the proclamation said.
“The City of San Rafael takes great pleasure in recognizing Celebrate Diversity Month and urges all residents of San Rafael to join in celebrating the ways that recognizing our differences and diverse contributions make us a stronger and more compassionate community.”
