20 Masked Robbers Take Over East Bay Store, Firing Multiple Rounds: Police

The robbers acted in broad daylight and several of them were armed, police said.

SAN RAMON, CA — A San Ramon jewelry store was robbed Monday afternoon by a group of roughly 20 people in masks, at least one of whom shot through the retailer’s front entrance, in what police characterized as a “take-over style” robbery, authorities said.

Officers responded shortly before 2 p.m. to Heller Jewelers in the 6000 block of Bollinger Canyon Road, according to police, who said the robbers entered the store, smashed display cases and stole items. Several of the robbers were armed and at least one fired multiple rounds, although no one was injured, police said.

The group fled in waiting cars, and while officers terminated pursuits due to public safety concerns, air support tracked the suspects through Contra Costa County and into Alameda County, according to police. Several people were detained in Oakland and Dublin, police said.
