Fire Protection Districts Remind Residents to Change Smoke Alarms

BAY CITY NEWS SERVICES

With Saturday marking the end of Daylight Saving Time, with clocks rolling back an hour, fire officials throughout the Bay Area advise residents to change batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

The alarms can save lives and should be changed twice a year, as well as be tested once a month to ensure they are working properly, officials said.

If there is no smoke alarm in a home, they should be installed immediately, according to fire officials.

Contra Costa County fire offers free smoke  and carbon monoxide inspection, testing and replacement programs. Sign up for a free smoke alarm on their website here.
