First Menopause Town Hall Held in San Ramon
ASM Rebecca Bauer hosted a panel discussion with Dr Rajita Patel and Dr Timothy Leach in the first Menopause Town Hall in District 16.

The inaugural Menopause Town Hall, hosted by Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, Chair of the Select Committee on Reproductive Health, was held yesterday, drawing attendees from the local community. This event, themed "Mythbusting, Educating, and Starting the Conversation," featured expert insights from Dr. Rajita Patil, Director of the UCLA Comprehensive Menopause Program, UCLA, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Dr. Timothy A. Leach, Medical Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology, John Muir Health's Walnut Creek Medical Center. The panel discussion aimed to debunk common misconceptions and provide valuable information on the menopause transition.
Attendees were also introduced to the work of the The Menopause Society (formerly The North American Menopause Society) that is dedicated to providing healthcare professionals with the tools and resources to improve the health of women during the menopause transition and to providing useful information for women navigating this life stage.
Reference was made to the recent groundbreaking research published in Nature by Dr. Lisa Mosconi, focusing on the role of estrogen in brain health. Dr. Mosconi's findings underscored the importance of estrogen in maintaining cognitive function, offering new perspectives on managing menopausal symptoms. Her new book " The Menopause Brain" provides profound insights into the impact of menopause on the brain and highlights the need for more comprehensive research in this area.
