San Ramon Target Bombing Suspect Arrested In $4M West Coast Robbery Spree: Feds
Diego Ananias Arellano Diaz is accused of being a member of a robbery crew that stole a total of $4 million from ATMs across the West Coast.
SAN RAMON, CA — A suspect in the July 20 bombing and burglary of a Target in San Ramon was arrested Tuesday in Newport Beach, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.
Diego Ananias Arellano Diaz, also known as Fabio Cristian Hernandez, is alleged to be part of a Chilean ATM robbery crew accused of robbing banks and ATMs throughout California, Oregon, and Washington.
Diaz is accused of detonating an improvised explosive device to gain entry to an ATM machine at the Target on 2610 Bishop Drive at 2:19 a.m., according to the San Ramon Police Department. No one was injured, but a portion of the store's interior near the eastern entrance was damaged.

Diaz and other suspects orchestrated a number of more than 29 similar robberies across the West Coast between May and October 2024, according to the DOJ. To avoid detection, the crew rented short-term vacation properties near their intended targets, and used cars rented on the black market. Crew members then identified ATMs in vulnerable locations, and then used construction crew disguises, blow torches, cell phone jammers, and other tactics to break into ATMs and steal their money.
More than $4 million in cash was stolen.
