Classified Staff Honored In San Ramon Valley Schools

SAN RAMON, CA — Last week, 42 classified employees from San Ramon Valley Unified School District were honored and recognized as their school or department’s 2022 Classified Employee of the Year. The list of honorees included SRVUSD custodians, instructional assistants, paraprofessionals, clerical and technical support staff, maintenance and groundskeepers, transportation workers, crossing guards, food service workers, campus security, and district office staff.

A reception was held for the honorees and their families on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, and it was attended by many staff members from across the district cheering their colleagues on as they were called up to the stage. Keith Rogenski, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, and LaTonya Williams, Director of Classified Personnel, presented each honoree with a certificate recognizing the exemplary support these employees provide to the students and staff of San Ramon Valley Unified School District. Superintendent John Malloy, Board of Education President Ken Mintz, and Board of Education Trustees Hurd, Bratt, Clark, and Ordway were also on hand to congratulate each employee as they received their certificate.

Superintendent Dr. John Malloy shared, “We are so proud of our classified employees. They reflect the expertise, the service, the generosity, the commitment, and the joy of serving students in the San Ramon Valley.”

SRVUSD’s District Classified Employee of the Year was announced during the ceremony as Jennifer Rhee, Library Media Coordinator at Tassajara Hills Elementary School in Danville. She was recognized for her efforts in creating a school library that is welcoming and joyful, where students can experience literature that broadens their understanding of the world and sparks their imagination. During the pandemic, when schools were closed, Ms. Rhee was determined that students continue to have access to books. She recorded herself reading a variety of books aloud and shared the videos with the school community. Ms. Rhee supports her students and staff by creating an environment focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Each year all Contra Costa County School Districts select Classified Employees of the Year. An expert committee, with representatives from education and the community, then chooses one of these candidates to represent Contra Costa County in the State Classified Employee of the Year Program.
