Here are the top three stories today in Santa Barbara:

  1. The American Horticultural Society (AHS) is presenting the 2023 Great American Gardeners Award to the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. The award is typically given to a public garden that represents sustainable horticultural practices in design, maintenance, and/or programs. The Santa Barbara Botanic Gardens is among the six individuals and organizations that were selected this year. (Noozhawk)
  2. Santa Barbara Beautiful has officially opened its 2023 community grant applications. The program is designed to support local organizations in their efforts to enhance the community with various events and projects that encourage public accessibility. Grants will range from $250 to $10,000, and the organization's volunteer staff will evaluate all applications. (KEYT)
  3. Santa Barbara County's assistant executive officer Terri Maus-Nisic was recently recognized by assembly member Gregg Hart as the recipient of the 2023 California Woman Making Herstory award on Monday, Mar. 20. The state legislature focuses on recognizing the achievements and contributions of women leaders statewide every March. Among many of her other contributions, Maus-Nisic helped to oversee the county's COVID-19 response and recovery efforts in addition to leading initiatives to eliminate homelessness. (Noozhawk)
