📰 Here are the top stories in Santa Barbara today:
- The city attorney is doubling down on ending illegal street vending. The office filed “two criminal complaints for fire code violations,” which is only the beginning. Reportedly, many illegal kitchens operating on the streets are traced back to an “unnamed restaurant in Los Angeles.” (KEYT)
- The city council determined to keep nine blocks of State Street closed to cars “through at least 2026.” Dissenting votes came from Councilman Eric Friedman and Mayor Randy Rowse. (NoozHawk)
- What’s the effect of cruise ship traffic on Santa Barbara? The Harbor Commission wants to know. To this end, it requested stakeholder input and has now determined that people's concerns are the effects on air quality, water quality, and overall overcrowding. There’s a good chance that the city will respond to the concerns with new regulations. (KCBX)
- Check out the great arch at the courthouse. You may have noticed that some conservation work was ongoing to remove “dark biological growth and pollution that stained and degraded the sandstone.” The result is a noticeable transformation that makes the arch look “as it appeared almost 100 years ago.” (edhat)
- The Prime Time Band will perform at the Independence Day festivities in the courthouse’s sunken garden. The concert starts at 5 p.m. By the way, the band is always looking for new members. Best of all, you don’t need to be a virtuoso to join! (PT Band)
