📰 Here are the top stories today in Santa Barbara:

  1. Providence School at 630 W. Canon Perdido St. went on lock-down Friday at 10 a.m. Reportedly, some saw an “unarmed person” who didn’t belong on the campus. Although a faculty member was able to walk the individual to the exit, police officers were called, and the all-clear was not given until 11:45 a.m. (edhat)
  2. If you’ve been a regular at the Crush Bar on State St., we’re sorry to be the bearers of bad news. The “only queer bar since the drought” shut down on Friday. It was for sale on Compass First for a laughably low price. However, when no buyer stepped forward, it was time to call it quits. (Crush Bar, Compass First)
  3. Santa Barbara's economic development director got in front of his own job elimination and quit. The city administrator suggested eliminating the position to save the $182,193 annual salary the director received. “The city is facing a $1.1 million budget deficit in its $220 million general fund in 2024 and a $4.8 million shortfall in 2025.” (NoozHawk)
  4. A father-and-son team will seek to convince Shark Tank to bankroll their business. EyeWris launched half a year ago; the product is a set of reading glasses you wear around the wrist. And yes, the show has already been filmed; however, the duo isn’t allowed to give any hints, and we don’t know if they got the funding. And, if you missed it, check out the Shark Tank blog for the results. (Shark Tank Blog)
  5. Pianos on State 2023 is looking for artists! The interactive art project will celebrate its 14th year in October, and Santa Barbara artists are encouraged to apply. Accepted participants receive $500 to buy materials and get to work. Apply by July 15! (Santa Barbara Independent)
