Here are the top three stories in Santa Barbara today:
- The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office lifted the lockdown that was in place for San Marcos High School and Santa Barbara City College’s Wake Campus on Turnpike Road on Apr. 3. At around 10:30 a.m., deputies received reports of an active shooter on or near the high school campus and responded immediately. Deputies were at the school within minutes, but they soon announced the reports of an active shooter were “unfounded” and lifted the lockdown by 11:25 a.m. (Santa Barbara Independent)
- Crews are working on clearing debris and downed trees near Pescadero Drive and throughout Santa Barbara after severe weather. The recent high winds and rainfall, which saturated the soil, have caused many species of trees to topple over, including coast live oak, Monterey cypress, and eucalyptus trees. (KEYT)
- In April, Santa Barbara MTD will host multiple public outreach meetings to discuss proposed changes to the local bus service. The first meeting will be held on Apr. 11 at 6:00 p.m. at the Downtown Library, Faulkner Gallery in Santa Barbara. Proposed changes include restoring Line 28 (UCSB Shuttle) service, a new micro-transit service in Goleta and Isla Vista, and new peak hour Line 19x (Carpinteria/SBCC Express) to serve Carpinteria, Santa Barbara’s Eastside, and SBCC. See all the proposed changes and details for the public meetings, and offer feedback for the changes through a survey here. (Noozhawk)
