📰 Here are the top stories in Santa Barbara today:

  1. The local Santa Barbara Humane campus is slated for renovations. You can see information posted on story poles for the next two weeks. “The story poles are a required precursor to presenting the City of Goleta with our conceptual plans.” (edhat)
  2. Did you know that some electric bikes can travel as fast as 20 to 30 miles an hour? As you might imagine, it’s a concern for pedestrians on the State Street Promenade. Some near misses are creating tension. You can be part of the solution! State Street Master Planner Tess Harris will be at two meetings today that are hosted by Friends of State. Come to 508 East Haley St. at 5 p.m. for the meeting aimed at adults. Youngsters can show up at 4 p.m. (KEYT)
  3. Ten Santa Barbara City College students received $1,250 scholarships each from The Rotary Club of Montecito. “For nearly 30 years, our club has provided vocational scholarships to deserving students who have been nominated by faculty members,” the club’s president explained. Congratulations to Estella Avila, Hannah Diaz, Marianna Gamet, James Hanna, Leslie Loaeza, Alyssa Marlen, Andrej Mihajlovic, Julio Rangel, Riley Stork, and Carmen Zamora! (KEYT)
  4. Speaking of the college, the Associated Student Government recently met with the Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District to discuss service changes coming in August. Citing a driver shortage, the district can’t return to pre-pandemic-style service. Students voice concerns regarding coverage for evening classes. (The Channels)
  5. Do you like self-serve, drive-through car wash facilities? Conserv Fuel at 150 South La Cumbre Road just received unanimous approval from the Architectural Board of Review. The facility would take up the space of the vacant Animal Hospital site. Reportedly, the design incorporates Spanish architecture and olive trees. (NoozHawk)
