📰 Here are the top stories today in Santa Barbara:
- A storage yard containing “flammable liquids, spare tires, and other items” went up in flames Friday morning around 3 a.m. Firefighters arrived at the 700 block of Carpinteria Street and saw “large flames.” Although the building is total loss, firefighters contained the flames, put them out in about 40 minutes, and did not find anyone hurt. (NoozHawk)
- Public Works had some mopping up to do near the corner of State Street and N. La Cumbre Road. A water main break created headaches for residents on State and New Hope. Businesses, too, were affected by the sudden water shutoff. And, if you were driving, you most likely encountered street closures in the area. (City of Santa Barbara)
- We know what’s going into the space formerly occupied by The Neighborhood Corner Bar & Grill. Seven Bar & Kitchen intends to resurrect its concept at 235 W. Montecito St. sometime this year. Will there be changes? Reportedly, operators plan to “keep the same grit, rotating art, live music and comfortable atmosphere” they had in the Funk Zone but will “polish up on certain aspects.” (BizHawk)
- Weigh in on sidewalk vending at the community meeting on Monday. Officials will be at Casa Azteca at 6 p.m. At this point, the city is running a task force with an enforcement team that focuses on “the more egregious and dangerous vendors that have been operating without a business license, proper health certifications, and seller’s permits.” (Santa Barbara)
- It’s the day for the Summer Solstice parade! Kicking off at Ortega and Santa Barbara streets at high noon, the floats will take the route down Santa Barbara until they reach Alameda Park. Hang out at the park and enjoy music, vendors, food, and a beer and wine garden. (Santa Barbara Independent)
