📰 Here are the top stories today in Santa Barbara:

  1. The driver of a gray sedan is lucky to be alive. Her car “went off Highway 154 at the Cold Spring Bridge.” However, she was thrown from the vehicle and “ended up 150 feet off Highway 154 on a steep slope.” Her location was so difficult to reach by foot that emergency personnel hoisted her into a helicopter and flew her to the hospital. (Noozhawk)
  2. A power outage brought commerce to a halt on Sunday. It affected Coast Village Road and turned restaurants, a gas station, and residents dark. Reportedly, one eatery asked guests to leave. There’s no word about what caused the hour-long outage. (John Palminteri)
  3. The Santa Barbara Unified School District is being sued by its former chief educational technology officer. The plaintiff alleges “disability harassment, a hostile work environment, and retaliation.” He worked from 1997 until 2021 when the superintendent informed him he “is not the type of leader she is looking for.” (Noozhawk)
  4. Did you see the smoke on Monday? The Vandenberg Space Force Base conducted a prescribed burn. Additional burns will take place between today and Thursday. They are scheduled for “Chamberlin Ranch near Los Olivos.” (edhat)
  5. Cuyama Lambs are happily grazing in Mission Historical Park. A herd of about 100 animals arrived last week. If you’d like to take pictures, keep your hands off the electric fence. It delivers a mean shock! (Santa Barbara Independent)
