🍷 Hobby Poll!
Everybody has hobbies. If time and money were no object this summer, which new hobby would you like to learn or take up? We have some preliminary results.

  • 20 percent - traveling
  • 9.9 percent - flying
  • 6.7 percent - ballroom dancing
  • 3.3 percent - fly-fishing, crocheting, Mahjong, basket making, dog training & showing, surfing, watercolor, pickleball, line dancing, pottery, reading, horseback riding, wine collecting, car collecting, playing guitar, kickboxing, golf, roller skating

One of you asked a great question: “Does anyone have photography as a hobby now?” With our new phones, there’s no longer the need for a dark room and all the accouterments that used to come with the hobby.

📰 Here are the top stories today in Santa Barbara:

  1. Homeless neighbors will receive 90 tiny homes at 4500 Hollister Ave. What used to be the old Juvenile Hall property is now going to become “interim supportive housing for the homeless people currently dwelling in 47 encampments nearby.” County supervisors heard from 50 residents with opinions on both sides of the issue. In the end, the vote for the tiny home community was unanimous. (Santa Barbara Independent)
  2. The city’s parks & recreation director wants to tighten the purse strings by cutting Monroe Elementary School’s after-school program. For parents, the $63,000 saving would mean having to locate and sign up for another after-school program Santa Barbara Unified operates. Critics say that Monroe Elementary serves a largely low-income community, making the cuts particularly worrisome. Proponents state that the program at Monroe has seen declining enrollment. (NoozHawk)
  3. Do Harry and Meghan have a stalker? Or is there just a prowler with not much sense of private property? The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office claims they’re dealing with a prowler. However, the staff at the couple’s mansion says the 29 year old was stalking. (TMZ)
  4. How did the La Primavera fundraiser for Old Spanish Days go? Insiders report that they had a sold-out crowd and raised north of $40,000. Thank you to all who attended — and spent money! (Santa Barbara Independent)
  5. Compassionate Care of Carpinteria, an initiative of Hospice of Santa Barbara, will host its annual luncheon on May 31. The meeting takes place at the Rincon Beach Club, and all are invited to buy tickets and attend. (Coastal View)
