Dia De Los Muertos At Santa Monica Pier (Photos)
Dia de los Muertos was honored at the Santa Monica Pier with incredible figures from LA artist Ricardo Soltero.
SANTA MONICA, CA — As sun fell across the Pacific ocean, locals this week came to view the towering La Catrina sculptures and honor Dia de los Muertos at the Santa Monica Pier.
The towering figures created by Los Angeles artist Ricardo Soltero were surrounded by bright, orange marigolds, a beautiful symbol honoring life and death. Dia de Los Muertos is a tradition celebrated in Latin countries and around the world on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2, known as All Saints' Say or All Souls' Day on the Catholic calendar.

The art is part of Santa Monica’s Economic Recovery Task Force, Cultural Affairs new Art of Recovery initiative to harness the power of the arts in the City’s economic, community, and health recovery efforts. Inspired by the WPA-era’s Federal Art Project, this initiative will fund artistic works and creative projects that will strengthen and connect Santa Monica.
