1 Sent To Hospital, 8 Displaced In Santee Fire Sunday Morning
One resident of the Santee apartment building that caught fire was evaluated for smoke inhalation after trying to extinguish the flames.
SANTEE, CA — Eight residents of a Santee apartment building have been displaced, and one may have suffered smoke inhalation, after a unit caught fire Sunday morning.
Firefighters responded to the building, which is in the 10700 block of Magnolia Avenue, at around 9:40 a.m. Sunday, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
Though the fire was contained to one apartment, Santee firefighters categorized it as a 2nd-alarm fire because of the potential for flames to spread to adjoining units, according to the Times of San Diego.

A resident in the affected apartment was taken to the hospital for a smoke inhalation evaluation after firefighters were told they tried to extinguish the blaze, according to the Union-Tribune.
The fire was ultimately contained to one unit, the Times of San Diego said, though the apartment below it has water damage and the apartment next door sustained smoke damage.

Crews from neighboring fire departments helped extinguish the flames, the Times said, and the Union-Tribune reported that the American Red Cross was asked to help the displaced residents.
