Alleged Driver In East County Hit-and-Run Remains In Custody
An automated license-plate reader and other databases identified the involved vehicle, police said.

EL CAJON, CA — A Lakeside man remained behind bars Saturday on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing injury in a collision in El Cajon that left a 12-year-old boy critically injured.
Online records indicate that Dani A. Korkis, 35, was being held at the Central Detention Facility in downtown San Diego with bail set at $50,000 and arraignment scheduled for Nov. 3 in El Cajon Superior Court.
Korkis was driving a white BMW X5 that hit the boy in the 300 block of Ballantyne Street at about 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to the El Cajon Police Department.

Emergency personnel arrived to find the victim lying in the roadway with extensive head injuries and the involved vehicle gone, with debris from it scattered in the street, ECPD Lt. Joe Crawford said.
Paramedics took the child to a hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.

Detectives found it parked at a Lakeside business, damaged in a manner consistent with the accident, according to police. They then located and arrested Korkis. He was booked into jail shortly before 1 a.m. Friday.
The boy has not been identified.
