Inmate Dies After Being Found Unresponsive In Santee Jail

The 31-year-old woman was facing multiple theft-related charges at the time of her death, including vehicle theft and resisting arrest.

SANTEE, CA — An inmate died after being hospitalized this week, authorities said.

Sheriff's sergeants found the 31-year-old woman unresponsive inside her jail cell around 7:25 p.m. Monday at Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

The facility's medical staff performed life-saving measures on the inmate until she was taken to a hospital, where she died shortly afterward, according to the sheriff's office.

The woman's name was withheld pending family notification. She was facing multiple theft-related charges at the time of her death, including vehicle theft and resisting arrest.

The cause of her death was under investigation.
