What Locals Think About the $15,000 Red Rover Injury Settlement
Various local reactions to the story of the seventh grade Carlton Oaks student injured in a game of Red Rover- a banned game at district schools.

Read some local reactions to the story of a seventh grade Carlton Oaks student injured in a game of Red Rover in 2011, who recently settled with the district in July to cover medical expenses, lawyer fees and a remaining $9,000 to be held in a bank account until he turns 18, according to court documents.
The settlement came after a lawsuit was brought against the district by the child's guardian concerning fractures to his leg sustained during a game of Red Rover during P.E. class. A group of students fell down when one student tried to crash through the linked arms of two other kids.
Locals commented to NBC San Diego in a piece aired yesterday:
- A grandmother's granddaughter broke her arm at carlton oaks playground recently said "I never blamed the school, it wasn't their fault. It happens, they're kids."
- "It's kind of ridiculous, kids play."
- "I think the school would probably want to resolve it and not get bad publicity from it."
Adam Paul "It's a ludicrous lawsuit. It's a game that has been played for yrs. Another cash grab."
Neal Goforth "New P.E. Rules... There will be no football, baseball, kickball, or any sport that can lead to injury. Track will be run, but only after the track has been inspected by a state certified inspector. There can be no dips or potholes, and all sticks and stones larger than a grain of sand removed. To protect children during recess all children will be wrapped in bubble wrap and shall remain a foot apart while standing in place."
Shellene M. Quintanilla "Wow why don't they just ban recess and have the kids sit in class all day!! No one would be hurt at all .... Unless on the way home they step in a pothole and twist there ankle!"
