Man Fatally Shot At East County Park Identified

The 51-year-old was shot in the neck, officials said.

LEMON GROVE, CA — Authorities have publicly identified a man who was fatally shot over the weekend at an East County park.

Deputies responding to a report of assault with a deadly weapon at 12:40 p.m. Sunday found Anthony Trujillo, 51, suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck at Kunkel Park in Lemon Grove, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

Trujillo was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, sheriff's Lt. Michael Krugh said.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy Monday and determined that the preliminary cause of death was a gunshot wound to the neck, with the manner classified as homicide.

"At this time, the motivation and circumstances surrounding this tragic incident remain unclear," Krugh said. "Preliminary findings indicate that the victim and suspect were acquainted. Investigators are actively seeking further information to establish the facts of this case."
