Motorcyclist Killed, Passenger Injured In Head-On Crash With SUV In East County
The impact of the crash caused the rider and passenger of the Ducati motorcycle to be ejected onto the roadway, according to the CHP.

LA MESA, CA — A motorcyclist was killed and his passenger was severely injured over the weekend in a head-on crash with an SUV in San Diego's East County, authorities said.
The crash happened around 8 p.m. Sunday when a motorcyclist and his passenger were riding a 2017 Ducati motorcycle northbound on Avocado Boulevard in La Mesa, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of a southbound 2019 Ford Explorer tried to make a left turn onto eastbound Explorer Road and caused a head-on crash into the motorcycle, CHP Officer Jasmine Lopez said.

"The impact of the crash caused the rider and passenger of the Ducati to be ejected onto the roadway," Lopez said.
The rider, a 22-year-old man from El Cajon, was pronounced dead at the scene, Lopez said. His passenger, a 20-year-old El Cajon woman, suffered major injuries in the crash and was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital. The driver of the SUV, a 40-year-old La Mesa man, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital.

It was unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, which remained under investigation.
