Police Gunfire Wounds Motorist After Truck Hits Officer In East County

The shooting occurred as police were preparing a ceremony to celebrate the retirement of an El Cajon police captain.

EL CAJON, CA — A motorist was wounded by police gunfire Wednesday after driving a pickup truck into an officer outside El Cajon Police Department headquarters, authorities reported.

The law enforcement shooting in the 100 block of Civic Center Way took place shortly after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, ECPD public-affairs Lt. Keith MacArthur told news crews. The condition of the motorist was not immediately available.

The officer hit by the vehicle was taken to a hospital for treatment of apparently non-life-threatening injuries, the lieutenant said.
