Power Outage Darkens 10K Homes In San Diego County Overnight

SANTEE, CA — An unplanned power outage Monday evening left nearly 9,932 homes and businesses without electrical service across swaths of eastern San Diego County, according to the utility.

San Diego Gas & Electric customers who reside in the cities of Casa De Oro, La Presa, Rancho San Diego, and Spring Valley were all affected during Monday's hours-long outage, the utility announced.

Service was restored to all affected customers by 10:30 p.m. Monday night, according to SDG&E.

As of Tuesday morning, only one outage was reported on the SDG&E outage map.

Customers who reside in Sorrento Valley, Mira Mesa and Scripps Ranch suffered a second power outage that began shortly before 6 a.m.

Hours later, the outage remained in place for approximately nine homes and businesses, which were still without power. However, it was expected to be fully restored by 2 p.m., according to the utility's outage map.

The cause of both power outages remained unknown and was under investigation, according to the utility.
