Santee Chamber Of Commerce: Santee School District Names Communications And Community Engagement Director

SANTEE, Calif. – Following a competitive recruitment, the Santee Board of Education has announced Cori Harris as the District’s first-ever Director of Communications and Community Engagement.

In 2021, the District conducted a Communications Audit to generate recommendations for improving the effectiveness and management of internal and external messaging. Included in the recommendations was the creation of a full-time communications staff member.

Santee School District Board President, Elana Levens-Craig, said, “The Board of Education is committed to engaging with our community through open, transparent and consistent communications. With a growing district and evolving communication needs, especially through the pandemic, we saw a need for centralized and increased communications. Cori’s experience using innovative strategies to connect communities will allow us to reach our families and partners in new ways.”

“This position will be essential to creating and implementing the District’s first strategic communications plan,” stated Superintendent Dr. Kristin Baranski. “Cori’s wealth of experience in communications and community outreach will enhance our efforts to effectively engage with families, staff and local partners, and will be critical to telling the District’s story nationwide.”

Harris holds a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Phoenix. She has spent the last eight years managing communications and community outreach programs for municipalities throughout Arizona, most recently serving as the Communications Manager for the City Council of the fourth largest city in the state. She has been recognized nationally for her creative communication and community outreach campaigns.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Santee School District family,” said Harris. “I have a passion for building community through meaningful connections and I am excited to put that to good use in this new role. I thank the Board and the Superintendent for their confidence in me and I look forward to serving the Santee community.”
