Santee, La Mesa Under Frost Advisory Through Wednesday Morning

SANTEE, CA — The National Weather Service declared a frost advisory for San Diego County Valleys, including Escondido, El Cajon, San Marcos, La Mesa, Santee and Poway.

After the San Diego rainstorm a frost advisory was put into place from 10 p.m. Monday through 9 a.m. Tuesday, the NWS said.

If you love your garden chances are you should cover your non-frost-hearty plants.

"Frost in the valleys is possible, as temperatures in some areas will drop into the low 30s," a spokesperson for the NWS said. "Frost could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered."

Another round of frost was likely Tuesday night, as temperatures were expected in the low 30s once again.

"Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold," they said.

Garden lovers can use sheets or specialty fabrics from your local hardware store or nursery to cover young plants. Be sure to prop up the covers using tomato cages or even a folding chair to protect the leaves.

Fruit trees may also need additional covering.
