Santee's Macy's Small-Format Store Set To Open Saturday

SANTEE, CA — Macy's small-format stores are coming to empty box stores nationwide, including a former Bed Bath and Beyond store in Santee.

The store is set to open on Saturday in Santee's Trolley Square, located at 9918 Mission Gorge Road in Santee, according to Santee's Economic Development Manager, Pam White. The grand opening is at 9:30 a.m. and the store will open to the public at 10 a.m., she said.

Zach Blatteis, Director of Real Estate for Kimco Realty in San Diego, commented on adding the store to Santee's retail market.

"We are thrilled to introduce Macy's latest small-format store to Santee Trolley Square, perfectly timed for the upcoming 2023 Holiday Season," stated Zach Blatteis, Director of Real Estate for Kimco Realty in San Diego. "This represents a significant victory for the center and community, as we proudly unveil this innovative concept store from an iconic American brand, tailored to the tastes and preferences of our modern-day shoppers."

The new Macy's will feature a broad span of features, tested with success as the corporation rethinks its store strategies, according to a news release.

"The Santee store measures about 30,000 square feet, or about a fifth the size of a standard Macy's," according to White in an East County Magazine interview. She added that the chain is trying to have a smarter, leaner model focusing on merchandise that sells well across Macy's stores.

Think designer brands, fragrances and make-up, women's and children's clothing and shoes, and even toys, through a contracted partnership with Toys R Us.

What you won't see? Home goods, furniture, and such.

Macy's has eight retail mall-sized stores open, including Mission Valley, Fashion Valley, University Town Center, La Mesa, National City, Chula Vista, Escondido, and Carlsbad.

Upgraded shopping experiences include faster customer service, cutting-edge technology, and spacious fitting rooms. "Shoppers in fitting rooms can scan QR codes for rapid assistance with sizes and the like," according to Macy's CFO Adrian Mitchell.
