Several Arrests Made At Homeless Encampment In East County

Several people were arrested on suspicion of drug-related offenses, outstanding misdemeanor warrants and identity theft, authorities said.

EL CAJON, CA — Several people were arrested this week on suspicion of various charges at a homeless encampment in East County, authorities said.

A small fire sparked around 2 p.m. Tuesday at a homeless encampment near Willow Glen Drive in unincorporated El Cajon. Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. There were no injuries or property damage.

On Wednesday, authorities performed an enforcement operation at the same encampment, resulting in multiple arrests. Several people were arrested on suspicion of drug-related offenses, outstanding misdemeanor warrants and identity theft, the sheriff's office said.

The encampment has been cleared and cleanup efforts are underway.

Authorities asked the public to report suspicious or criminal activity to the sheriff's office at 858-868-3200.
