Suspected DUI Driver Arrested In Hit-And-Run Crash In Santee
Robert Panza, 37, was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit-and-run offenses, according to the sheriff's office.
SANTEE, CA — A suspected DUI driver was arrested after crashing into a vehicle and fleeing the scene, authorities said.
Deputies responded to reports of a multi-vehicle collision at 9:27 p.m. Sunday in the 9000 block of Mission Gorge Road in Santee, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. Witnesses said the suspect traveled at a high rate of speed near Mission Gorge Road and Fanita Drive before crashing into another vehicle, leaving the motorist inside and blocking traffic.
The suspect, identified as Robert Panza, 37, was seen fleeing from the rollover crash and running toward the San Diego River, authorities said. He was found following assistance from a patrol helicopter, K9 unit and tips from the public.

Panza attempted to hide under vehicles in a residential area and in the brush, according to the sheriff's office. Officials said he appeared to be intoxicated and was taken into sheriff's custody without incident.
Panza was booked into jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit-and-run offenses.
