Suspected DUI Driver Arrested After Deadly East County Crash With Motorcycle

The driver of the SUV was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into Las Colinas Detention Facility.

EL CAJON, CA — A woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI after the SUV she was driving hit and killed a motorcyclist and injured his passenger in San Diego's East County, authorities said.

The crash happened at 4:12 p.m. Sunday at 1200 E. Main St. in El Cajon, according to the El Cajon Police Department. Officers found the 41-year-old driver of the motorcycle and his female juvenile passenger in the roadway.

"After a preliminary investigation of the scene and interviewing witnesses, it appears the Suburban was traveling eastbound on East Main Street when it entered the turn lane to go north on Shady Lane," the department said in a news release. "The Suburban turned in front of the motorcycle that was traveling westbound on East Main Street. The motorcycle collided with the front passenger door of the Suburban."

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His name was withheld pending family notification.

The girl was taken to Rady Children's Hospital, where she was expected to survive her injuries, police said.

The 37-year-old woman driving the Chevrolet Suburban remained at the scene. It was determined she was under the influence of a stimulant during the crash, police said.

She was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into Las Colinas Detention Facility.
