4 In Running for Miss Santee, Time Running Out to Participate
Feb. 12 is deadline for entrants for 2012 pageant, offering scholarships and more.
The for this year's had one of the lowest turnouts in years- four Miss Santee and six Miss Teen Santee contestants, according to Pageant director Alex Kuty. It was on Sunday, perhaps the was to blame?

Pageant director Alexandra Kuty said that “we are looking for young women who want an opportunity to be leaders in their community. The busiest girls make the best titleholders, so girls who are involved in all sorts of activities are perfect.”
Pageant organizers are seeking outgoing women ages 13-26 to take part in the 2012 Miss Santee and Miss La Mesa Pageants.
“We love seeing a diverse group of ladies with all sorts of backgrounds,” Kuty says.
The Miss Santee Pageant is sponsored by the , which gives the girls opportunities to represent the city at events all year long. There is no swimsuit competition.
and Miss La Mesa 2012 each receive a $1,000 scholarship while Miss Miss Santee Teen and La Mesa Teen 2012 each get a $500 scholarship. Scholarship money was fundraised in August in the “Fashion Rocks the East” fashion show at the La Mesa Community Center.
An extra $1,000 will be dedicated for essay award winners, thanks to donations from the La Mesa Chamber of Commerce and .
“It’s important to recognize the contestants in several areas, including essay writing, to show our commitment to education and being well-rounded women,” Kuty said.
Entrants will be scored on personal interview, speech, poise and personality, sportswear, evening gown and an on-stage question. Pageant photographers will present the Miss Photogenic award, and contestants will vote for the Miss Congeniality award.
Winners serve as their cities’ official hostess and spend the year attending grand openings, parades, summer concerts and chamber functions.
