Two people were hospitalized in a two vehicle collision at Route 67 and San Vicente Avenue in Lakeside Friday afternoon, in what California Highway Patrol officer Kevin Pearlstein described as a suspected DUI incident.
The accident, which occurred at about 12:30 p.m., involved a white Chevy pickup truck that incurred major front end damage and another Toyota sedan. Both vehicles were found down an embankment, according to the CHP incident report page.
The roadway was deemed clear of debris at 12:53 p.m.
The driver of the pickup, a 41-year-old male, was trapped in the vehicle for a time and was then transported to Sharp Hospital with minor injuries, according to CHP. He was suspected to be driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The other driver was also transported to Sharp Hospital with minor injuries, but was not under the influence, according to CHP.
It is reported that the truck was carrying aluminum cans, and a few hundred of the cans were strewn along the side of the road.
Editors note: A previous version of this post incorrectly reported that the accident occurred at San Vicente Road in Ramona, which was not the case.
