Woman Fatally Struck By Vehicle In San Diego's East County
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation.
LA MESA, CA — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in San Diego's East County.
The crash was reported at 9:49 p.m. Monday in the 5600 block of Baltimore Drive in La Mesa, according to the La Mesa Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive woman lying in the roadway, police said. The 61-year-old was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The identity of the victim was withheld pending family notification.

"The preliminary investigation revealed that the female pedestrian was crossing Baltimore Drive from east to west outside of a marked crosswalk," police said in a news release.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation. Police said alcohol and drugs were not believed to be factors in the crash.

The department's Traffic Unit was handling the investigation.
