Girl Scouts participate in The Tech Challenge 2023: Survive the Storm
This year's challenge: Build a structure to protect vulnerable objects from extreme winds
Girl Scouts of Northern California troop #62735 participated in The Tech Challenge 2023: Survive the Storm in San Jose, CA last month. This year’s challenge: Build a structure to protect vulnerable objects from extreme winds.
Over 2,000 students participated in this year's challenge for the 36th Annual youth engineering design program geared towards solving a real-world problem. Teams spent months optimizing their designs, documenting their process in engineering journals and working together to build a solution.
The Girl Scouts team tested their designs in front of family members and volunteers. Though they did not place in the challenge, troop volunteer Ann Moore said “They gained a lot of confidence and will be back next year. The kids really have enjoyed the engineering activities because they are so hands-on and creative.”

Girl Scouts introduces them to engineering and teaches them to iterate, work together and challenge themselves. It’s a great program for girls and has tons of activities that make it a fantastic leadership program.
