Aptos Woman Dies In Crash On Highway 17 Thursday: CHP

Emergency workers tried to save the woman's life at the scene.

SCOTTS VALLEY, CA — A woman died in a crash on northbound state Highway 17 just south of Mount Hermon Road in Scotts Valley Thursday afternoon, California Highway Patrol officials said today. A 64-year-old woman from Aptos was driving a 1998 Honda in the lane next to the passing lane around 3:50 p.m. when she collided with a 2004 BMW driven by a 46-year-old Union City man, according to the CHP.

The Honda ran off the east shoulder of Highway 17, going through a fence and across El Rancho Road and slamming into a tree, the CHP said. Emergency workers tried to save the woman's life at the scene and
she was taken to Dominican Hospital but succumbed to her injuries, according to the CHP.

The Honda had major front-end damage and the BMW had moderate damage to the right side, the CHP said.
The driver of the BMW wasn't hurt, according to the CHP. He was released at the scene.
