The average commuter in Scotts Valley spends 25.8 minutes driving each way between home and work every day, according to the above interactive map designed by the WNYC radio station.

The WNYC map shows how one-way daily commute times can vary by a minute or two depending on the neighborhood. In Scotts Valley's 95066 zip code, the figure is 25.8 minutes, while neighboring 95065 is at an even 22 minutes.

Census figures show that about 8.1 percent of U.S. workers have commutes of 60 minutes or longer — known as long commutes — and nearly 600,000 full-time workers had "megacommutes" of at least 90 minutes and 50 miles.

The average one-way daily commute for workers across the country is 25.5 minutes, and one in four commuters leave their county to work.
