VAN NUYS, CA — A reckless driver was arrested in Van Nuys Wednesday afternoon after leading California Highway Patrol on a wild car chase, where he nearly struck a police officer. The pursuit started around 5:15 p.m. on the northbound I-5 Freeway near the 101 junction, according to CHP.

CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said officers tried to pull over the gray Nissan SUV because of a blown tire. The car fled, driving along the right shoulder and hitting several other cars before getting off on Victory Boulevard.

Just before 5:30 p.m., the suspect drove into a cul-de-sac at the end of Lemay Street. The driver tried to turn around and almost hit an officer before abandoning the car and trying to escape on foot, where he was taken into custody.
