Open House Saturday at Fire Station 88: Come On Down

Visitors encouraged to take photos, talk to firefighters who served during major disasters, including 9/11. 'Come on down and pay us a visit,' says Battalion Chief Steve Ruda.

An open house at Fire Station 88, at 5101 N. Sepulveda Blvd., is planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Some of the firefighters expected to be on hand to greet visitors were called to New York in 2001 when the World Trade Center was attacked. Others at the station worked in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The Urban Search and Rescue team is also based here.

Visitors will be able to talk to the firefighters, take pictures of the equipment and tour the station, which is one of the largest in Los Angeles. Kids can pose on the hook-and-ladder for photos.
