Sherman Oaks Senior Lead Officer Warns About Things Left on Dashboard
The Senior Lead Officer for Sherman Oaks, Trent Berry, warned residents not to leave things on their dashboard.
The Senior Lead Officer for Sherman Oaks, Trent Berry, warned residents not to leave things on their dashboard.
“You don’t want to leave things in plain sight that will be attractive for people to break into your car,” said the LAPD officer at a recent Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council meeting. (See the video.)
People are now leaving their cellphone or GPS devices on the windshield or leaving large bags or purses in the front seat, and then people break the windows to get into the car, Berry said.
“Our main push is against property crimes,” Berry said. “So don’t leave things inside your vehicles. A lot of it is common sense stuff.”
A local McDonalds added the warning on their sign and the LAPD said: “Thank you to our friends at McDonald's at Sherman Way and Sepulveda for supporting LAPD in our Lock it, Hide it, Keep it program.”
In his report, he added:
“We are still experiencing some slight activity of graffiti in the Sherman Oaks area. Most, if not all, tagging is not gang graffiti. Still, this is blight to the area and we are working hard to catch these vandals. Please report any graffiti to us so that we may photo it and document it. Also, you may request to have it painted out by calling 311.”
