City to Hold New Hearing on Amended Water Ordinance
The city will hold a hearing on amending its new water use restriction ordinance at its July 9 meeting.

Following a hearing where multiple residents raised serious concerns with new water use restrictions introduced by the city last month, the City Council decided to hold another hearing on whether to make changes to those restrictions.
The initial restrictions passed in May mandate that residents make a 20 percent usage cut or face fines. The new amendment would alter the usage cuts to factor in a summer target and a winter target, according to a message sent out by the city.
Factoring in the season in the changes could make it easier for users to make the target as they would have more ability to cut their water usage in rainy Winter months.
At the end of Tuesday's hearing, the Council also asked that a rule that mandates installation of a flow restrictor for any customer who violates the ordinance more than twice be removed from the amendment ordinance.
The hearing will be at the council's regular July 9 meeting.
